Garbler Thrush
Turdus perturbator
Population: 1 known individual
Size: 30-34cm long, 40-43cm wingspan
Diet: Unknown
Call: A complex, stuttering warble with an almost artificial, ‘glitchy’ tenor
Threat level: Moderate
The complex, alien song of this mutant Song Thrush (Turdus philomelos) seems to have a detrimental effect on all electronic equipment within its vicinity, wherein devices will sporadically malfunction in glitchy, unpredictable ways before ceasing to function altogether. No damage has yet been detected within any of these devices’ circuitry and it has not yet been possible to test for software/data corruption.
The Garbler Thrush’s song is also capable of effecting native species. So far, a Common Blackbird (Turdus merula), Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) and a mating pair of Wood Pigeons (Columba palumbushave) been noted as being affected, their calls becoming garbled and confused followed by behavioural abnormalities. These abnormalities lead to a kind of catatonic stasis where the species will remain inert (sometimes for several days) until succumbing to dehydration/starvation. Despite intervention efforts, nothing has yet been found to alleviate this malady in effected species. In addition, no physical trauma could be found upon analysis of these deceased specimens.
